FAQ
Questions buyers ask before they buy.
If your question is not here, ask on the Sitewyn item page of the platform you are looking at. We answer there in public so the next buyer can read it too.
Do I need a separate builder server or a Supabase account?
No. Sitewyn runs as one Docker Compose stack on your VPS: the web app, the API, a background worker, PostgreSQL, Redis and Caddy. Forms, CMS entries, orders, bookings and members are stored in your own PostgreSQL. There is no build binary, no compile queue and no third-party database to sign up for.
If the AI does not write code, how does it build a site?
The agent plans a sitemap, then fills sections from a library of 40 section types, each with a JSON schema. The server validates every section and retries or repairs anything invalid before saving it. One React renderer draws the same document in the editor and on the published site, which is prerendered to static HTML.
Can my customers edit their sites without spending credits?
Yes. Clicking an element to change text, images, links, spacing or styling does not call the AI and costs nothing. Credits are only spent on AI actions such as generating pages, chat edits, images, SEO audits and translations, at prices you set per action.
How do custom domains and SSL work?
Each site gets a subdomain on your wildcard domain. For a custom domain, the customer adds the A record the wizard shows (or a CNAME for www). Sitewyn verifies it, and Caddy issues a Let’s Encrypt certificate on demand. Caddy only requests certificates for domains your platform has verified.
Will it run on shared hosting or cPanel?
No. Sitewyn needs a VPS or dedicated server where it can listen on ports 80 and 443, run long-lived Node.js processes and a background worker, and issue certificates for customer domains. A 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM VPS with Docker is the minimum. The requirements page lists everything.
Which AI providers does it support?
OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenRouter, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, for example a self-hosted model server. You add keys in the super-admin, can pool several keys per provider, and can let tenants bring their own keys per plan. AI images run on gpt-image models through OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry or any OpenAI-compatible images API with the same keys, pools and BYOK; stock photos (Unsplash, Pexels) use their own keys.
Can my customers add videos?
Yes. They upload MP4 or WebM files (up to a size you set, 100 MB by default, within their plan storage) or paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or Wistia link or embed code. Videos go in video sections, galleries and muted hero or section backgrounds. Embedded players load only when a visitor presses play. The AI places the videos customers add in the wizard, their brand kit or a chat message, and never adds a video they did not give it.
What does a generated site cost me in AI usage?
It depends on the model you choose and how many pages and images a site has. Because the model fills structured fields instead of writing source code, a site takes far fewer tokens than code generation. The AI cost dashboard shows your real spend per model, day and tenant next to the credits they bought, so you can price credits with a margin.
Which licence do I need?
If your customers pay you to use your installation, you need the Extended licence (Unlimited on Lemon Squeezy and Payhip). If you use it yourself or for one client who is not charged, the Regular licence (Single-site) fits. On CodeCanyon each licence covers one installation; Codester’s Extended licence and our Unlimited licence cover more. The terms of the platform you buy on are the final word.
Where can I buy Sitewyn?
On CodeCanyon, Codester, Lemon Squeezy or Payhip. It is the same product with the same updates everywhere; the licence wording, support period and price differ a little by platform, and the Buy page lists the differences. You pay and download on the platform you choose and activate with the key or purchase code it gives you.
Are payment gateways or templates paid plugins?
No. All 14 launch gateways for your plans and credit packs, storefront checkout with Stripe, PayPal and Razorpay, the 24 templates, S3-compatible storage, export and updates are in the base price. Add-ons, when they ship, extend the product. They do not unlock basics.
Can a customer take their site elsewhere?
Yes. Any site can be exported as a static HTML ZIP with its assets and relative links. Forms either keep posting to your Sitewyn installation or are switched off in the export, as the customer chooses.
Which languages are supported?
The dashboard, super-admin, installer and emails ship in 26 languages with right-to-left layouts. Generated sites can be written and translated into any language your AI model handles, with locale routes and hreflang, and RTL layouts for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu.
Can it build apps?
In Sitewyn 1.0 an app is a data-backed website with member accounts: sign-up and login, member-only pages, and data sections where members create and edit their own records, such as a directory or a client document portal. It does not build native mobile apps or arbitrary custom code.
Is the code encrypted, and can the licence check lock my customers out?
There are no encrypted or obfuscated files; you get the full TypeScript source. The installer verifies your purchase code or licence key once and stores a signed licence file. If our licence server cannot be reached, the installation keeps running on a 14-day grace period, and tenants are never blocked by the licence check.
How do updates work?
Updates are free for licence holders. The super-admin Updates page reads a signed release manifest, shows the changelog and takes a backup. Docker installations then rebuild with one printed command. Release notes are on the changelog page.
What does support include?
Author support comes with every purchase: six months on CodeCanyon (Envato sells extensions), Lemon Squeezy and Payhip, and up to twelve months on Codester. It covers installation help on a server that meets the requirements, bug fixes, and questions about features. Custom development and third-party accounts are not included.
